DESIGN COMMUNICATION

Project 1A- Onsite Sketching

This assignment requires us to engage with a site of our own choice, we are to experience it through a spatial sequence. To observe what people do in the space and sketch it onto paper, I have produced two interior and two exterior spaces. I have chosen the Publika entrance to show its geometrical shape and also its glass surface exposing its interior spaces. Furthermore, I specifically frame the free parking space and also the construction in the background to show the distance of each faction. I am able to understand the notion of space in architecture and also developed skills in visualizing of space through observation and perception of a given site.

Project 1B- 4 Tonal Values

Four variation of sketching techniques are to be produced in this assignment, it will be based on a prototype model. And for my case, its an hourglass which would project interesting shadow casted on the plane.

I learned to use the four hatching types which is One direction hatching, Cross-hatching, Scribbling, Stippling. I’ve develope various techniques of hatching through different medium.

Project 2A- Orthographic projections

For my semester, we are assigned the Eames House which I think is a good choice because Charles and Ray Eames are the famous designers of the 20th century. We not only get to discover the inventions they made but also their studio. At the end of this assignment, I am able to represent a three-dimentional object in two dimensions. Recording the length and width clear and legible architectural information manually using butterpapers. Finally, I can demonstrate in pencil and ink examples of line types, line weights, line quality, hand lettering.

Project 2B- Outline Axonometric

This is the most challenging project of all projects for me because I have trouble finding the best axonometrical pathway for the “explosion” of my drawings.

After some trial and error, I am able to arrange the different sections and plans all into an A1 tracing paper. I find it best to draw it in a portrait way to show the layers of the building. I gain the ability to express spatial ideas and architectural details in three dimensions, in the format of an axonometric projections.

Project 2C- Outline Perspective

Perspective drawings is a vital mode of communication in architecture, it enables me to express spatial idea in 3-D form. It also stimulates my creativity and complexity in presenting a building or inspecting it.

I learned to generate one point and two point perspectives and apply them to the design process and presentation.
