Penang's sub-culture is a mixture of Asia itself. Rather than feeling mono-ethic, it exemplifies the county's colonial past and mixed heritage future brilliantly. Inner Georgetown is dotted with idiosybcratic shop houses, narrow roads, old-fashioned colonial-era mansions, clan houses, ornate temples and merchant districts. We are to produce image by observing and analyzing the architecture heritage that forms the very base of our society, which will also raise an awareness to inculate appreciation of the built environment, its inhabitant and the symbiotic relationship between them. I find that the buildings in Georgetown really amaze me, they comes in various designs and the way they are preseved is of expert's skills. Every detail and color is taken into consideration making the place seems to be still in it's time of glory, I really enjoyed this trip, taking lots of picture and sketching on the street.

MATERIALITY OF SPACE: AN EXPERIENTIAL EXPLORATION

My team of five people chose the Tropicana Metropark as our commercial building to explore and experience the space within and also the carefully chosen material used for the buildng, we met the architect representative and he took us for a tour around the showroom offices. We took down notes and asked a lot of questions regarding the building and its materials, I've come to learn a few common materials used in our country which is locally made and bought. We documented our work and make an analysis of the materials' chemical and physical properties. I also understand the effects of building materials on aesthetics and structural qualities of a space or building and the appropriateness of material used in context several factors occupancy, concept, climate.

INTEGRATED MATERIAL SOLUTION: PRODUCTION OF SPACE

I will be selecting the materials used for our studio finals city dreamspace, there are a few issues I have to solve which is site context and the material compatibility with climatic, cultural, and aesthetic conditions, applicability of material to occupancy, size of building, including durability and structural requirements, environmental impact building materials and recycling issues.

Other than that, I have to choose the material which helps in the function of the building. I tried coming up with different kind of materials used for support the building which will also affect the occupants in the building I had explore and identify various types of building materials and technology. Moreover, I understand the effects of building materials on occupancy, aesthetics and structural qualities of a space, building or environment. I was able to produce drawings to visualize the architectural effects of proposed materials (spatial quality) for example the perspective shown in my board.
