PROJECT 1: Shelter For One
In this project, we are open to explore various skeletal and construction structure for our shelter. There are different materials for us to choose from and we are encouraged to use recycled materials, that will challenge our creativity to come up with ideas for the structure.
For our shelter, we used recycled pallets and reuse timber sticks and planks. We've ultilized some joints and connecting methods and supporting columns and bracing. Other than that, a foldable table and portable chair is included in the shelter. And most important of all, a semi transparent roof provides cover for the shelter and also views to the front and top.
BUILDING CONSTRUCTION 2
PROJECT 2: Understanding Forces in Solid Structure and Surface Structure
Further research into solid and surface structure is the aim for this project, what lies on top of a skeletal structure? we are to study the structure of a selected building and understand its construction methods and techniques, and prepare the details of material and process of building that particular builiding.
We've chosen the Mapungubwe Interpretive Centre in South Africa, it is an interesting building because of its motivation to build it and the direction for concept development is clear. It won the building of the year award, we are more incline to understand its detail and story behind. A SECTIONAL MODEL and a POP-OUT STRUCTURAL MODEL is modelled to scale.
